Mole Soft Toy - Anima Sitting Plush

The mole soft toy by Anima sits upright with broad digging paws stretched forward, peering out with its pointed snout. The velvety, dark brown fur feels pleasantly soft to stroke — much like the real mole's coat, which is considered one of the softest in the animal kingdom. Anima, the French manufacturer since 1946, paid attention to the powerful shovel-like paws and compact build of this small plush toy. In a child's room, the mole plush toy becomes an underground adventurer, tunnelling through pillows and blankets. In nurseries, it can help explain to children why earth mounds sometimes appear in the garden. The soft toy meets the European EN71 safety standard.

The European mole (Talpa europaea) is an insectivore that spends almost its entire life underground. At a body length of 12 to 16 centimetres and a weight of 60 to 120 grammes, it is surprisingly small. Its shovel-shaped front paws are perfectly adapted to digging — it can excavate up to six metres of tunnel in a single hour. Each day a mole eats roughly half its body weight, mainly earthworms and insect larvae. Although often considered a garden pest, it aerates the soil and devours harmful grubs.

Did you know that moles are virtually blind, yet possess one of the most refined senses of touch in the entire animal kingdom? Their snout is covered with over 5,000 so-called Eimer's organs — tiny sensory cells that can detect even the slightest vibrations and the electrical fields of their prey. In the pitch-dark tunnel system, they navigate entirely by touch and smell.
